“Woe to the rebellious children,” says the LORD, “Who take counsel, but not of Me, And who devise plans, but not of My Spirit, That they may add sin to sin; Who walk to go down to Egypt, And have not asked My advice, To strengthen themselves in the strength of Pharaoh, And to trust in the shadow of Egypt!”
Isaiah 30:1-2 (NKJV)
This judgment against Israel is full of good news for us!
Why was God declaring “woe” on Israel?
Because they were rebellious!
Their rebellion, at this juncture manifested in taking council from someone other than the Lord, and because they, “devise plans, but not of My Spirit.” God therefore was saying,
“You should have gotten your counsel from Me and made plans by My Spirit.”
The good news is that this clearly means that God is ready to give counsel and is ready to guide by His Spirit. Let us then seek the Lord’s will. Jesus taught us to pray daily for God’s will (Matthew 6:10). If we plan and strive for the Kingdom, our labors will be preserved and blessed (Habakkuk 2:13, 14).
