Do you know that God’s enemies, the enemies of Christ, the enemies of the Church have a plan?
For instance, the ACLU has been systematically removing every visage of Christianity from our culture bit by bit, step by step. They have a plan. Men like former Deputy Attorney General David Ogden have for decades, step by step, bit by bit, broken down standards of righteousness in our culture. David Ogden “has a long record of serving the porn and abortion industries and the radical homosexual lobby…”1
Do we Christians have a plan? God has a plan, but do we? God’s plan is for his Church to disciple the nations, teaching them to obey all that Jesus has commanded us. We have God’s law, which Jesus, the Eternal Word, has given us. But many of us suppose the Law of God is for a time past, or that God does not require unbelievers to abide by it. This is a serious error. God does not change, nor does his standard of righteousness. All people, believers and unbelievers are held accountable to God’s law. The unbeliever no more than the believer is allowed to steal, to murder, to commit adultery, to bear false witness, to covet, to create idols in place of the true God, to take God’s name in vain.
We understand that the law does not make one right with God; law does not justify. Yet there is a lawful use of the law (1 Tim. 1:8).
“Knowing this: that the law is not made for a righteous person, but for the lawless and insubordinate, for the ungodly and for sinners, for the unholy and profane, for murderers of fathers and murderers of mothers, for manslayers, for fornicators, for sodomites, for kidnappers, for liars, for perjurers, and if there is any other thing that is contrary to sound doctrine”
1 Timothy 1:9-10.
John the Baptist used the law “lawfully” when he told a chief political ruler,
“It is not lawful for you to have your brother’s wife”
Yet much of the Church today thinks the law cannot be imposed on political rulers. Some who have thought about this suppose the pagans ought to be ruled by “Natural Law”. Any “Natural Law” was put there by the God who created nature, and it does not differ in the slightest from the Law Written. God does not have two standards of righteousness. He did not set up one standard within nature and then give a different standard in written form. To say that unbelievers are subject to natural law, but not to the written Law of God, is unclear and illogical reasoning; it is unbiblical.
The enemies of God have a plan and they are successfully working their plan. Christians have a plan available, but the great majority of us suppose it is outmoded/outdated, or irrelevant for society at large. That plan God has given us is the Law of God.
